Pursuit of happiness

What is happiness? Like any other emotion it is just a gauge is it not? But what do people need in order too feel happy? Some people need very little, a dry shelter, some food and water, a little support from others and they are very happy. The lady that lives next door to me for example, has very little and is the most well adjusted woman I know. Too her happiness is a candy bar or my mowing her lawn or taking care of her firewood. Or doing what she can for others.

Other folks always seem to be seeking more twisted forms of happiness and never seem to find anything that lasts, they seek expensive things and trips and such. I’ve had women tell me that they have experienced extreme happiness at times, and they seem to be seeking that level of happiness all the time, as if nothing else is good enough anymore. A rather foolish way of looking at things if you ask me. People always seeking extreme happiness must have other things lacking in their lives and are not looking at the simple little things that should be making them happy.

What makes me happy? A good joke or cartoon that makes me laugh, at least inside. An hour or two spent at the beach, a hike to the hot springs. Sometimes just a pleasant time spent with a friend not doing much of anything. Things like that and those things don’t cost much and are easy to achieve. Anyone wanting more than the simple things are just expecting too much and it isn’t likely they are going to find happiness in other ways no matter how much money, time and effort they extend trying. Extreme happiness only lasts a few minutes, or moments, and is often random and unexpected, unplanned. Any moments of extreme happiness I have experienced happened just that way so it is rather foolish to chase it

What makes me unhappy? My personal life is pretty good so it is the way the world is.
